BEACHES
Maharashtra is blessed with a 720 km long stretch of coastline, extending from the Damanganga River in the north to the Terekhol Creek in the south. This enchanting stretch, adorned with natural beauty, accounts for around 10% of India’s total coastline. Truly, Maharashtra can be considered a fortunate state when it comes to tourism — for this rugged land, as described in ancient texts, is graced with a delicate and picturesque coast that captivates tourists with its natural charm.
This coastline begins in the north at the villages of Dahanu and Bordi in Palghar district and continues southward along the entire Konkan belt, ending at Vengurla in Sindhudurg district, near the Goa border. Along this stretch lie six districts of Maharashtra: Palghar, Mumbai City, Mumbai Suburban, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg.
...
The Konkan region, blessed by the proximity of the sea, is lush, green, and brimming with natural beauty. This coastline is dotted with numerous pristine beaches of golden sands and bluish waters, which have long been a constant allure for travellers. Spending time by the sea — whether taking a stroll along the shore or watching the waves at sunset — offers a uniquely soothing experience.
A trip to Konkan would be incomplete without savouring its authentic Konkani–Malvani cuisine, which is an attraction in itself. Some locations in Sindhudurg district have been developed for tourism and offer opportunities for adventure sports like snorkelling and scuba diving, catering to thrill-seekers.
This coastal belt of Maharashtra remains bustling with tourists from across the country and abroad. The ideal time to visit is anytime except during the monsoon (June to September), as heavy rains limit coastal activities.
