PARGAON SHINGVE
TYPE : NAGARKOT
DISTRICT : PUNE
HEIGHT : 0
While traveling from Manchar towards the Bhimashankar Sugar Factory, about 15 kilometres along the way, lies a village called Pargaon Shingwe on the banks of the Ghod River. The reason for mentioning this village is its gateway. The presence of this gateway, flanked by two bastions, indicates that Pargaon Shingwe was once a fortified settlement known as Nagarkot.
Although the fortification that once surrounded the village has vanished over time, the two bastions beside the gateway still stand firm to this day. The gate between the bastions was demolished when the village road was being built. Due to neglect, even these bastions are now deteriorating.
...
Adjacent to the bastions, a hero stone (virgal) and a cow stone (Dhenugal) have been placed. A visit to these remains of Nagarkot at Pargaon Shingwe takes just about five minutes. Even the locals are unaware of the village’s historical background. About 2.5 kilometres from Pargaon Shingwe is another village named Shingwe Pargaon. Noting the similarity in their names, one should keep this in mind while visiting this historical site.
