When we say Wardha District we remember Mahatma Gandhi's Sevagram but in this Wardha district of Vidarbha many forts once existed in the form of hill fort, ground fort and fortresses. While exploring forts in Wardha district, we got to see a total of 10 fort ruins. In today's modern age, information about these forts is not visible even on the internet. I have tried to present the information obtained while visiting these forts on this website Durgbharari. Many of these forts have been completely destroyed and only a wall or a bastion or a gate is remaining. Rest of the remnants are fighting the time. Among these 10 forts there are 2 small hill forts, 1 Sarai and the remaining 7 fortresses. As most of these forts consists of villages, temples or dargahs, construction of them has caused damage to the remains of this fort and the ignorance and indifference of the locals towards this fort is also causing the deterioration.

The condition of Kurzhadi Fort located in Deoli taluka is similar to this. To visit Kurzhadi Fort you have to reach Wardha or Pulgaon city. Distance from Wardha to Kurzdi Fort is 26 km and distance from Pulgaon to Kurzdi Fort is only 12 km via Malkapur. Rickshaws are available from Pulgaon to Kurzdi Fort. Coming down from Kurzdi Fort village and going towards the fortress, on the right side of the road you can see the Maruti temple and a well in front of it and on the left side in a small dome, you can see the idols of Uma Mahesh and Ganapati. This square shaped fort is spread over an area of 1 acre on the banks of Yashoda River. Today, only the base part of the northern rampart of this fort, which has four bastions at each end, remains. The forts remnants inside it are completely razed to the ground and there are houses of the Ghodmare family. Kurzdi was one of the 4 villages owned by Kurzdikar, who is currently a permanent resident of Virul. The fortress at Sonegaon was donated by Kurzdikar to Saint Abaji and long ago he shifted his residence from Kurzdi and settled at Virul, after this the Kurzhadi Fortress was abandoned. Half an hour is enough to see the fortress as there is no specific remnant of the fortress except the ramparts.
