KHAMGAON
TYPE : NAGARKOT
DISTRICT : BULDHANA
Khamgaon, a taluka town in Buldhana district, has been famous as a market since medieval times. Located on the medieval trade route Malkapur-Balapur, the city was famous for silver. The city, which flourished due to the silver trade, was protected by ramparts and gates around it. There are frequent mentions of Khamgaon city fort in history, but it is not understood in what period the construction of this fort took place. Due to the growing city, all the fortifications and gates of this fort have been destroyed in the course of time and only one gate is left in this rampart. This door is now known as “Shivaji Ves Darwaja”. Shivaji Darwaja is 2 km from Khamgaon railway station and 3 km from ST station. This door has been newly painted in oil color and the statues of Shivaji Maharaj and Maratha soldier have been installed near this door.

On the inner side of the door are steps leading to the top of it. Apart from this, a small wada (mansion) decorated with carvings inside the door is a must to see. While walking around the old part of the city, many medieval structures are seen but no other remains of the fort can be seen. The tour of the fort starts at the door and ends there. 10 minutes is enough to see this door.
