KAYAR
TYPE : GROUND FORT
DISTRICT : YAVATMAL
GRADE : EASY
While studying the history, it seems that some injustice has been done to Yavatmal district because while wandering around the forts of this district, small forts like Raveri, Kayar, Durg, Kalamb can be seen but these forts are not mentioned anywhere. Locals know this fort but others are unfamiliar with it. The main reason these forts are unfamiliar is that they have been destroyed or are on the verge of being destroyed. One such fort which is getting destroyed with the passage of time can be seen in Kayar village of Vani taluka. This village is located on the Vani-Mukutban road at a distance of about 19 km from the Taluka location of Vani. This fort is situated on a hill behind the village and if you ask anyone in the village you can easily reach this fort. A little near to the fort is an ancient temple of Lord Ganesh on the road, some carvings can be seen outside this temple.
...
Kayar fort is situated on a 50 feet high hill behind the village and the fortifications of the fort has turned into mounds of mud. The area of the fort is about 2 acres and we can see its entire fortification in the form of a mound. Since the top of the fort has been cultivated for years, the remnants on it have been completely destroyed. Half an hour is enough to see the fort. Apart from this, the village has two temples that are related to history, one of them has idols of Bhairav and the other has idols of Shivlinga, Nandi, Vishnu, and Ganesh. Since the fort was abandoned long ago, its identity is also lost.
