JALGAON
TYPE : CITY FORT
DISTRICT : JALGAON
HEIGHT : 0
Jalgaon district is one of the 36 districts of Maharashtra. The city that gives the district its name Jalgaon today was an important city in Khandesh since the medieval period. Earlier, the city was enclosed by bastions and protected by a trench, but the increased population has eroded these bastions and turned the trench into a drain. But even today some remnants of this fort are present. This area with the ruins of Jalgaon Fort is called Mehrun. Earlier Jalgaon city was included in this Mehrun area. These ruins of Jalgaon Fort are scattered at different places and we get to see these ruins while walking through dense settlements. One of the bastions of Fort is on Mehrun Road and the famous landmark is the Mehrun Medical Store near this bastion. The circular shaped bastion is about 30 feet high and hollow inside. The base construction of the bastion is made of stone and the upper construction is made of bricks.

The ramparts adjacent to this bastion have been completely destroyed and looking at the overall structure of this bastion, it seems that it must be a bastion on the corner of the Fort. In the upper part of this bastion, the gun and cannon mounts are visible. Crossing the road from this bastion and walking straight ahead, one can see a medieval well. A large amount of water can be pumped from this well. The water pumping was done using old different mechanism but is now done by electrical pump. Apart from this, the second bastion of Fort is in Tambapura area and unknown Baba's tomb has been installed on this bastion and it has been converted into a dargah. The third part of the Fort seen after this is the fortress in the inner part of the Fort which used for government work. Today this fort has been completely destroyed and only a small porch of it remains. This porch can be seen in front of Mehrun Talathi office. The only remaining door of this Fort can be seen if one exits the Talathi office by a straight road. This door has been plastered with cement and new houses have been built adjacent to it and the fort. Just in front of this door is the trench of Fort which has turned into a drain. One hour is enough to visit all these remains of Jalgaon Fort. Being Nagarkot (city fort), the history of this Fort is not read anywhere.
