DINDORI

TYPE : GADHI/NAGARKOT

DISTRICT : NASHIK

GRADE : EASY

You can’t tell what you will get to see where, when you explore Maharashtra. This is exactly what happened to us while going to Kanhergad after seeing Ramshej fort. Talegaon Dindori village is at a distance of 18 km from Nasik. Before entering this village, a bastion can be seen on the right with a saffron flag flying on it. Seeing this bastion and the flag, our car suddenly stopped and the footsteps turned towards this bastion. I had not read anything about this historical structure located in Talegaon Dindori village. About 8 km from Dindori taluka, this structure is a fortress with four bastions and local people know this fortress as “Gosavyachi Gadhi”. Spread over about 1 acre, this fortress has largely collapsed today, and the ramparts on the west side of this fortress and the two bastions at its end are still in good condition. ... The length of these ramparts are 190 feet and the height is 20 to 22 feet. The remaining two bastions are more than half collapsed. This is more or less the case with the rest of the ramparts. The ramparts is made of rough stones in lime and the top construction is made of bricks. The arch and inner structure of the door on the north side of the fortress still remains today and it has been closed with thorn bushes. While walking around the interior of the fortress, one can see a newly built Shiv temple and some Nath tribal memorials. As the fortress has a lot of vegetation and there is nothing else, our exploration is completed in 10 minutes. Crossing the main road in front of the fortress and going behind the newly built temple on the other side, one can see some remaining ramparts of Nagarkot (city fort) and the ruined gate in this rampart. There is not much information about this fortress from the local people.
