DHAMARI
TYPE : CITY FORT
DISTRICT : PUNE
GRADE : EASY
While wandering around forts in Maharashtra, we get to see many city forts (Nagarkot). Dhamari Nagarkot (City fort) on the Shikrapur-Pabal route is one of them. Dhamari village is situated on the Shikrapur-Pabal road and is 12 km from Shikrapur fork and about 48 km from Pune city. S.T bus and Municipal Corporation Pune-Pabal bus service is available to reach Dhamari village. On the way to Pabal from Shikrapur-Pabal road, on the left side of the road, the remains of this fort and the ruined bastions on both sides are easily visible. In the course of time, the other remains of this fort have been completely destroyed, and this door and two partial bastions next to it remain. This door is now named as Krantiveer Vasudev Balwant Phadke Gate. The inside of the door has stone hinges to hold the wooden door.

As most of the ramparts have collapsed, new steps have been built to reach the upper part of the gate from the inside. There is a newly built Hanuman temple at some distance in front of this door. As there are no other remains of this fort, our journey started near the gate and ends there. Five minutes is enough to see this gate. Jagtap Patil resides at pimple received Dhamari village as vatan. This family has close relations with Baroda royal Gaikwad family and Kolhapur Chhatrapati family. Apart from this, no other history of this fort is currently available.
