The city of Ambejogai, enriched with cultural heritage, is considered the cultural capital of Marathwada. In ancient times, it was known as Ambanagari and later as Jayavantinagar during the reign of King Jayavanta. During the Nizam's rule, the village's name was changed to Mominabad. This city, situated on the banks of the Jayanti River in Beed district, is connected by roads to many districts in Maharashtra. Ambejogai is recognized as the birthplace of the Marathi language, as the first literary work in Marathi, "Vivekasindhu" by Mukundraj, was composed here. The Yogeshwari Devi in Ambejogai is the ancestral deity of many people in Maharashtra, making it a significant pilgrimage site. However, there is limited information available about a historical structure in Ambejogai, known as Ambejogai Buruj. ... Ambejogai Buruj stand in front of Kholeshwar Mandir. The Ambejogai Buruj served as a watchtower during the reign of Raja Singhan of Devgiri in the 13th century. It was strategically built to provide a vantage point for surveillance and had a circular shape with a height of around 35 feet. The tower is accessible by a staircase within. Unfortunately, due to its age, the base of the tower has suffered decay, making it unsafe for climbing. The bastion played a role in the historical events during the struggle for independence, as it housed a radio transmitter during the Nizam's rule. After knowing that the radio is transmitting news for the Nizam, Maratha’s made an attempt to steal this radio although it was unsuccessful but the radio was permanently shut down.
